Pollination for Fruiting
Pollination plays an important role in the successful production of fruit, nuts and berries in the home orchard. Some modern varieties do not accept their own pollen and will require a pollinator.
A self-fertile variety is one that does not require another variety for pollination, but sometimes this happens either before or after the female parts of their flowers are ready to accept it. It's not at all uncommon to have flowers with defective stamens.
