Maintaining Your Yard

Grass Blade Cutting
Never remove more than one third of the grass blade in a single cutting. If too much of the blade is cut at once the grass plant's ability to perform photosynthesis is greatly reduced, affecting both the looks and health of your lawn.
Summer Mulching
Before the summer begins to sizzle, mulch around new plantings to reduce fluctuations in soil temperature and moisture content.
Water
During dry periods, water thoroughly with approximately one inch of water. This "deep" watering is preferred over short, light watering, as it encourages deeper root growth and makes your lawn less susceptible to disease and heat stress. The best time to water is in the early morning when evaporation rates are low and the grass has time to dry. Watering in the evenings, particularly after dark, allows excess moisture, making the lawn more susceptible to disease.
Fertilize
Your lawn requires three basic nutrients:
- N - Nitrogen - promotes growth and dark green color
- P - Phosphorus - promotes root growth under the soil surface
- K - Potassium - promotes root and plant growth
